The Holbeton Players had audiences at Holbeton Village Hall in stitches, in November, during its first production since early 2020;
Death by Fatal Murder.
The play, written by Peter Gordon, featured an all-star cast of locals from the village and slightly beyond who took to the stage for three performances.
Jack Purkis, featured as the inept Inspector Pratt who would not ‘rest easy until (the killer) was caught and re-incarbonated into the sanctimonium for the inane’!
Pratt was aided and abetted by Constable Thomkins, played by Jamie Green as well as local amateur sleuth Joan Maple played by Suzy Edwards.
Amy Garstang, Dan Godfrey, Lynda Chapman, Imogen Steven and Bob Mundee completed the cast of characters, playing a multitude of hilarious stereotypical murder mystery suspects.
The audience also had the pleasure of meeting Colonel Craddock again whose words for the performance were written and delivered by Steve Jenner.
The stage was transformed into the living room of a 1940 manor house, with set design by Andrew Hollett and many generous donations of furniture and fittings from various village residents, whose own living rooms must have felt a little empty for a few evenings!
Thank you to all involved. The whole production was a reflection of what an amazing village Holbeton is to be a part of.
The Players are already rehearsing for their next production, Babes in the Wood, which will take place in February 2023.
