Holbeton’s Got Talent.!!!

And so, It proved on Saturday night at the Twinings Holbeton’s Got Talent Show.
A wide variety of acts over a wide age range were on show. Our very own Blues Brothers Bob and Simon made sure the party atmosphere was turbo charged throughout.
After a very close competition Jamie Green was declared the winner of the Paddy Power Cup with his brilliant mime of Britney Spears “Hit me baby one more time’
We raised over £1000 for the Holbeton’s Twinning Association who will be hosting our French friends form Bodilis the weekend 17th-19th May 2024.
Many thanks to all of those who came and all those who performed.

The twinning welcomes anyone who loves to get together with others in the village. It is particularly family friendly.
Every year we either host the French or are hosted over in Bodilis.
It may seem surprising but an ability to speak French is not required at all!
However, most of us manage an occasional bonjour, au revior and merci over the odd glass or two or wine.

If you would like to be involved in any way contact.

CHURCHYARD RECEIVES AWARD-

The churchyard of All Saints Church Holbeton has been recognised with a Highly Commended award in this year’s Devon CPRE’s Best Churchyard 2022 competition.
The judges commended Holbeton “for its amazing allotments with fruit trees, a little pond and wildflowers. A wonderful bug hotel had been newly built by schoolchildren for the Platinum Jubilee and new signage had been put up following the judges’ advice last year”.
Congratulations to all the team in particularly Graham Price for his sterling and committed work over many years.
Thank you.

The Holbeton Players had audiences at Holbeton Village Hall in stitches, in November, during its first production since early 2020;
Death by Fatal Murder.
The play, written by Peter Gordon, featured an all-star cast of locals from the village and slightly beyond who took to the stage for three performances.

Jack Purkis, featured as the inept Inspector Pratt who would not ‘rest easy until (the killer) was caught and re-incarbonated into the sanctimonium for the inane’!
Pratt was aided and abetted by Constable Thomkins, played by Jamie Green as well as local amateur sleuth Joan Maple played by Suzy Edwards.
Amy Garstang, Dan Godfrey, Lynda Chapman, Imogen Steven and Bob Mundee completed the cast of characters, playing a multitude of hilarious stereotypical murder mystery suspects.
The audience also had the pleasure of meeting Colonel Craddock again whose words for the performance were written and delivered by Steve Jenner.

The stage was transformed into the living room of a 1940 manor house, with set design by Andrew Hollett and many generous donations of furniture and fittings from various village residents, whose own living rooms must have felt a little empty for a few evenings!

Thank you to all involved. The whole production was a reflection of what an amazing village Holbeton is to be a part of.

The Players are already rehearsing for their next production, Babes in the Wood, which will take place in February 2023.

If you would like to be involved with the Players in any way; on stage, back stage, on the committee, then please contact Clare Hollett: 01752 830361 clare.diva@btinternet.com or Zoe Purkis: 01752 830246 zoepurkis@hotmail.co.uk
